An action-packed first-half saw Man United underline their superiority in the Premiership and all but confirm another title as they overwhelmed Arsenal 6-1 at Old Trafford today.
Dwight Yorke, who started in attack with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was the Reds’ tormenter in chief scoring a superb hat-trick in quick time, with goals in the third, 18th and 22nd minute.
Arsenal were reeling and further goals from Roy Keane, who blasted past David Seaman from close range after a pinpoint pass from Yorke, and Solksjaer, who clinically dispatched the fifth goal from a low Nicky Butt cross just before half-time, killed off the game as a contest.
With Wes Brown and Jaap Stam giving nothing away at the back, United played well within themselves in the second half with David Beckham, whose effective passing lit up the first half, and Roy Keane being substituted.
With only minutes to go, Solskjaer then hit the post and seconds later Teddy Sheringham capped off an outstanding day for United as he rifled goal number six to complete the rout.
