Healthcare firm Uniphar has appointed a new chief executive, with former managing director of Movianto Gerard Rabbette stepping into the role.

A former chartered accountant, Mr Rabette trained with Ernst and Young before joining Cahill May Roberts in 1990, where he held a number of senior roles, including operations and agency director. He was appointed managing director of Movianto in 2004, and has also held the role of head of Celesio Solutions for Ireland.

He will take up his new appointment immediately.

Uniphar, which is owned by community pharmacists, has wholesale and distribution centres in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Sligo and recently relocated to new premises at CityWest.

Acting chairman of Uniphar, Maurice Pratt, welcomed Mr Rabette to the role.

"Gerard Rabbette is a highly experienced manager with a wealth of knowledge of the pharmaceutical services industry. We are particularly delighted to announce his appointment as chief executive Officer and we look forward to him applying his vast experience to his leadership of UniPhar," he said.
