Montreaux - As a new round of talks on Cyprus opened yesterday the UN mediator warned against hopes of rapid progress toward reuniting the long-divided island.

The UN special adviser on Cyprus, Mr Diego Cordovez, said the talks would focus on legal and institutional texts rather than actual problems such as the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the Turkish-occupied northern part of the island.
