Emergency services at Manchester Airport were put on full alert today when two tyres burst after an early-morning Ryanair flight from Dublin landed, a company spokesperson confirmed.

"Ryanair flight FR552 suffered a puncture after landing. Passengers disembarked normally and continued onwards on their journey. Ryanair sent over a spare aircraft to facilitate passengers travelling to Dublin," the Ryanair spokesperson said.

The 8.25 a.m. flight carrying 33 passengers came to an immediate standstill but no injuries were reported.

A spokeswoman for the airport said the passengers, who were not hurt, were taken by coach to the terminal while emergency services carried out a full inspection of the runway and the damaged tyres.

She said: "As the plane landed two tyres burst, forcing it to come to a stop on the runway.

"There is no suggestion that there was debris on the runway as the plane landed."

The aircraft will remain on the runway until new tyres are fitted by engineers.
