Two young girls killed in Co Longford crash

Two girls aged six and nine who died after a car crash in Co Longford last night have been named.

Two girls aged six and nine who died after a car crash in Co Longford last night have been named.

They were named this evening as Eva Carberry-Varden (6) from Oranmore, Co Galway and Mickella Logan (9) from Kilcock, Co Kildare.

It is understood the BMW hatchback car in which the two girls were travelling hit an embankment and left the road on the old N4 at Camlisk outside Edgeworthstown at around 9.30pm.

It is understood that Mickella died at the scene while Eva died in hospital.

Two adults and two other children were in the car. All four were injured and were taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar. One woman has since been released from hospital.

One of the injured children underwent surgery last night and is reportedly in a critical condition.
