At least 15 people were killed when a tanker carrying 20,000 litres of diesel ploughed into a footpath and burst into flames.

Police and witnesses said the Pilipinas Shell tanker swerved out of control after a tyre burst and slammed into parked vehicles and pedestrians in Paranaque Town near Manila airport.

Many of the victims were burned to death as the tanker's load caught fire.

The driver left the scene and has not yet been located.

In Bocaue town, a suburb of Manila, a trailer truckcrossed lanes on an expressway and collided with a bus at about 2 a.m.

Ten passengers died and several others were injured.
