Two more people have died on the State's roads bringing this year's total so far to 307.
A man was killed in a collision between a car and a lorry in Co Westmeath near Kilbeggan at around 5.30am.
The victim, who was driving the car, died at the scene. The lorry driver was not seriously injured. The road has been closed and diversions are in place.
Gardaí tonight named the man as 40 year old Oliver Gordon of The Gallops, Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath.
A 29 year old man is due to be charged before Castlepollard District Court tomorrow morning at 10.30am in relation to the collision.
An 84-year-old woman died after being hit by a car in Granard, Co Longford, yesterday evening.
She was a pedestrian and was hit by a car on Main Street, Granard, at 5.50pm and later died at Mullingar General Hospital.
She was later named by Gardaí as Teresa Curran of Main St., Granard, Co Longford.
Elsewhere, the fifth victim of the two-car crash in Co Monaghan last weekend was buried this morning.
John McQuillan (27), of Cabra, Threemilehouse, was a rear-seat passenger in a car carrying four people was involved in a head-on collision with a car carrying one man.
Mr McQuillan's four friends, aged between 19 and 21, died instantly. He sustained serious injuries from which he died on Monday evening.
