Two men were being questioned today after gardaí recovered a stolen shotgun.
Uniformed officers stopped and searched a car the pair were travelling in at 7.50pm last night in the Finglas area of north Dublin.
Gardai on routine patrol along the Cappagh Road spotted the two men, who are known to local detectives, and intercepted the car. It is understood the firearm was stolen in a burglary in Co Louth last year.
The two men aged 30 and 27, who made no attempt to evade arrest, were being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. They were being questioned in Finglas and Blanchardstown garda stations.
Gardai said the arrests are linked to an ongoing operation in the area. There were three shootings in Finglas within three days at the start of the week as troubled escalated over a local feud.
A 24-year-old man was shot at the Cappagh House pub on Barry Road on Sunday and his 51-year-old father was injured the following night after a gunman opened fire, hitting him twice at the front door of a home in Casement Park. On Tuesday night a gunman fired a volley of shots outside a house.
