THE Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Mr Liam Naughten, was one of two people who died in a two car collision at Ballydangan, on the Athlone to Ballinasloe road on Saturday. Two others were, injured.

The dead were Mr Naughten, of Drum, Athlone, and Mr Toni Laznibat, a Croatian national, who lived at Brookview, Dublin Road, Athlone. Mr Naughten was a passenger in one of the cars. The driver, Mr Tom Duignan, also from Drum, Athlone, and a passenger, Mr Naughten's son, Dermot, were taken to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. Mr Laznibat was the only occupant of his car.

In Donegal, Mr Samuel Mullan (74), from Quigley's Point, near Buncrana, was killed when the car he was driving was in collision with another car.
