Gardaí were last night trying to establish the identities of a young man and a woman killed in a road traffic accident in Co Kildare yesterday.
The accident happened at 6.45 p.m. on the N7 road at Hybla, Monasterevin.
The crash involved a car and an articulated lorry.
The lorry was driving north towards Kildare town when it collided with the car, sending it out of control and into a nearby field.
The car's male driver and a female passenger died at the scene. It is believed they were in their late-20s and from Co Laois.
Another passenger in the car, a man, and the lorry driver were treated for shock in Naas General Hospital.
The road was blocked for several hours following the collision but gardaí reopened it to traffic around 9 p.m.
The accident brings the number of fatalities on Irish roads this year to 237.
