Two men have been charged with the attempted murder of a teenager in Antrim.
The 17-year-old victim - named locally as Jordan Duffy - was seriously assaulted during an apparent sectarian attack on Station Road yesterday.
The Catholic youth remains in a stable condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital. The suspects, aged 20 and 21, are due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
A third man (23), has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being questioned at Antrim police station.
SDLP councillor Grainne Teggart called for an emergency meeting between political representatives, PSNI and other statutory agencies to create a plan to tackle sectarianism in Antrim.
“We all condemn the recent brutal attack on Jordan Duffy and that’s very important but what’s even more important is that we respond with action,” she said.
“There is no quick fix solution but it’s vital that we, as elected representatives and political leaders show real leadership on this issue.”
