Turf-cutters from north Galway and south Roscommon protested outside Glenamaddy Community Centre yesterday, where an information event was taking place on the proposed €1,500 an acre being offered in exchange for agreement not to cut turf on raised bogs designated as Special Areas of Conservation. A delegation met officials from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht inside the hall.
Department officials said they were merely providing information at such clinics around the country.
