Sunday Mirrordeputy editor Richard Wallace will take over the running of Britain's Daily Mirrortabloid as a replacement for Mr Piers Morgan.

Mr Morgan was sacked last month for publishing faked pictures of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners. The photographs in one of Britain's most popular newspapers sparked a public outcry before they were discredited.

Mr Wallace (43) has been acting editor for the Sunday Mirrorover the past four months, covering maternity leave. Previously he was the Daily Mirror'sUS editor in New York.

He has also held the positions of showbusiness editor and head of news. Prior to that he worked as a reporter at Mirrorrivals the Daily Mailand the Sun.
