A warning about the acute hazard created by toxic fumes generated from slurry tanks was issued by a Department of Agriculture official at the inquest yesterday on two Co Armagh brothers.

Mr William Gilmore Coulter (33) and Mr Ivor Gilmore (23), of Bolton Road, Loughgilly, near Markethill, were overcome by fumes while working to empty a tank on a neighbour's farm last September.

A jury at Armagh Coroner's Court found that the two died from poisoning by hydrogen sulphide due to agitation of the slurry.
