Mr Slobodan Milosevic's former right-hand man in Kosovo and a Bosnian Serb prison camp guard have surrendered to The Hague tribunal, a tribunal spokesman said this morning.

Former Yugoslav deputy premier Mr Nikola Sainovic, who is indicted with the ousted Yugoslav president for mass killings and expulsions of Kosovo Albanians in 1999, was taken into custody after flying to The Netherlands from Belgrade.

Mr Momcilo Gruban also gave himself up to court officials in the Hague. He is charged with presiding over the killing, rape, sexual assault, beating and humiliation of non-Serbs at the notorious Omarska prison camp in Bosnia in 1992.

The two accused were taken to the tribunal's detention centre, where Mr Milosevic has been held since he was handed over by Belgrade last June.
