Top engineer title for Monaghan man

A Monaghan man has been declared global winner of the GCC Engineer of the Year 2011 title.

A Monaghan man has been declared global winner of the GCC Engineer of the Year 2011 title.

David Murray, from Rahans, Carrickmacross, has received the top engineering award for major construction projects in the Middle East.

Son of south Monaghan Fine Gael county councillor Aidan Murray, his citation is described as “the highest international engineering award” on the world circuit.

Mr Murray, based in Dubai, said yesterday: “I’m very pleased to get such recognition, especially in view of all the other achievements by leading engineers in the Middle East.”

The award recognises outstanding technical engineering ability in the delivery of challenging and complex building designs by engineers in the Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.
