Three people have been killed on the roads in incidents in Wexford, Galway and Donegal.
A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the M11 between Arklow and Gorey in the southbound lane at about 12.05am. The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, a Garda spokesman said.
Two other male occupants received minor injuries. One was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital but was later discharged.
Gardaí said the road was closed between exit 21 and 22 southbound to facilitate a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.
Witnesses have been asked to contact gardaí in Gorey.
Separately, a man (42) was killed when he was hit by a car at about 1.30am at Furbo, Spiddal, Co Galway. The incident happened on the Galway to Spiddal road (R336) at Ballinahowen, three miles west of Barna.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to University College Hospital, Galway.
Gardaí said the driver of the car, who was aged 19, was uninjured.
The road is closed for a Garda investigation. Diversions are in place. Traffic travelling west should divert at Barna for Moycullen and travelling from the west should turn left at Spiddal for Moycullen.
Witnesses should contact gardaí at Salthill.
A26-year-old woman had died following a collision on the Ballyshannon Road, on the outskirts of Donegal town earlier today.
The woman was the sole occupant of a car which collided with another vehicle at about 9.40 am. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Letterkenny General hospital.
Two women who were in the second vehicle were hurt in the crash and transferred to hospital where their injuries are described as not life-threatening.
The Ballyshannon Road is currently closed to traffic while a forensic investigation takes place.
