More than 2,000 taxis formed a blockade outside Bulgaria's parliament building in central Sofia today to protest against the murder of the 3 1/2-year-old son of one of the drivers.

Inside parliament, Prime Minister Ivan Kostov cut short a question-and-answer session after announcing to the chamber that a boy had been kidnapped while on his way to kindergarten with his mother.

Let us stop this discussion to enable me to carry out my duties as prime minister Mr Kostov told deputies as he left the assembly.

A duty police officer said the boy was later found dead in a lake in a Sofia park.

The incident highlighted a public furore over a recent wave of violent crimes which have included killings of prominent underworld figures and the shooting of a 16-year old girl in central Sofia in January.
