Mr McKay was shot several times, at least once in the face, by a gunman who fired from a hijacked car which was later found burned out in the west of the city.

Police, who have called the shooting a brutal and ruthless attack, are investigating a possible drugs link.

The father-of-one was known to police but was not considered to be a senior criminal.

Investigators have made a fresh appeal for information on a silver Volkswagen Bora, registration number KLZ 9787, which was in the Belfast or Newtownabbey areas on Thursday.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Detectives are also keen to speak with anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured saloon car being driven in a suspicious manner in the Longlands area of Newtownabbey in the days leading up to Mr McKay’s murder.”
