Jimmy Murphy arrived on the drama scene during the 1993 Dublin Theatre Festival with Brothers of the Brush, a bleak view of working men in dubious battle. Since then he has been working steadily for the stage, radio and TV.

His progress may be measured by his new play, The Muesli Belt (featuring Don Wycherly, right), which has a touch of Eugene O'Neill in its plot, set in an inner-city pub which is the last refuge of its regulars.

Here the threatening Iceman is a property developer who, for profit, wants to tread on their dreams. It has a cast of five, and opens in the Peacock Theatre, Dublin next Wednesday.
