The Cuba Sugar Club

The beat will go on this summer at the ESB World Music Summer School. Tango, salsa, merengue, cha-cha-cha - all their secrets will be revealed in September during a series of workshops and concerts celebrating Cuban music.

Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains, just back from a three-month tour of the US, drops in to the Sugar Club to say "hi" to his friend, percussionist Juan Cuco Castellanos, who is programme director of the school and the man who played percussion on the I Know My Love track recorded with the Corrs for the Chieftains' album, Tears Of Stone.

Daniel Dultzin, Mexican ambassador, who is preparing to leave Dublin at the end of this month to take up his new posting in Brussels, has also come along to enjoy a taste of what will be on offer. "Cuban music is our music. There is no imperialistic problem. It's a great multi-culture with its roots in the 16th and 17th centuries."
