The ten towns to be connected to the Galway to Dublin gas pipeline were announced this morning.
Mullingar, Enfield, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Tullamore, Clara, Clarecastle, Ennis, Galway and Oranmore are expected to be connected when construction is finished by the end of the year. The project will cost an estimated €400 million and will create 600 jobs during construction.
Towns along the route of the 300 km pipeline have been in competition with each other to get connected to the gas network since the project was announced in 1999.
