Mr Nicholas Ivors (18) from Raheenavine, Rathdrum, who pleaded guilty at Wicklow Circuit Court to dangerous driving causing the death of a pensioner on January 9th, 1998, was given a 12-month suspended sentence and disqualified from driving for two years.

He was the driver of a motorcycle which went out of control near Arklow and hit Miss Lillian Bennett (74) who was walking on the footpath near Arklow town. Judge Groarke said the cause of the accident was a mystery.
