The iPhone Man of Steel is a little like the film: it has all the right bits, but it's still unsatisfying. The official game tie-in follows the events of the movie. General Zod attacks Earth and you, as Superman, must stop him. Fight scenes from the film are replicated as you battle your way through the story mode, facing a variety of Kryptonian enemies as you edge towards the ultimate goal of defeating Zod. Some effort has been put into the game environments, but the whole thing feels a bit flat. The visuals are great and the comic strip cut scenes that explain the back story fit perfectly with Superman's heritage. But there are too many mindless fights, and it quickly becomes tedious. In-app purchases feel like they've been shoe-horned in for the sake of it. You can unlock and buy six different suits for Superman, which can then be upgraded to give the him even more power. But the appeal of Superman (for me, anyway) was that he didn't need fancy gear to defeat the bad guys. Not the best outing for the Man of Steel.
