A few weeks ago, Ubisoft released Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a lower-budget spin-off from the Far Cry series, and a funny tribute to 1980s action movies. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a similar idea, taking a familiar brand and creating a simpler, cheaper and (in this case) arguably better game. You play Silas, a celebrated bounty hunter, recalling his life for fans. His adventures had him meeting legends, shooting outlaws and seeking revenge in the Old West. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a fast-paced, smooth and violent first-person (six) shooter. There’s more variety than you’d expect, as Silas uses a range of weapons (from pistols to dynamite), has slow-motion duels and uses the environment to take out enemies. This unpretentious, rousing shooter has a wry voiceover from its unreliable narrator and a dusty, bloody and muddy setting.
