Nintendo’s latest console has hit the market, and included in the launch line-up is Asphalt 3D. Ubisoft doesn’t stray far from a tried and tested formula here. There are 17 tracks set in cities around the world, and more than 40 vehicles to choose from. The object, as always, is to come in first, leaving rivals eating your dust and burnt rubber. Easier said than done. Brush up on the shortcuts hidden around the racks – you’ll need them. Crash out and the results are so disastrous it can be frustrating, particularly if you go from heading the field to limping along at the rear in a split second. When you’re racing at break-neck speed with nitro boosts, the 3D graphics become a bit of a blur. When you can slow down and take note of your surroundings, Asphalt looks good in 3D. And because it’s Nintendo, you can use the local wireless play aspect, which allows races with up to five friends.
