As apps become more sophisticated and nuanced, sometimes we forget that they're also a source of simple, endearing retro games. And they don't come much more old-fashioned than Super Crate Box.A basic, difficult, but fiendishly addictive 2D platform shooter game, Super Crate Boxis worth much more than its 79c price tag. Essentially, you play a man with a killer quiff who must shoot and avoid numerous monsters while collecting the eponymous boxes. Each box you collect has a new gun, and your weapons range from the humble six-shooter to the devastating rocker launcher. This is fun, but obviously won't exactly keep the developers of Modern Warfareawake at night. App games like this are downloaded in the millions, but hardcore games continue to rake in skiploads of money – why, it's almost like they were made for different markets! (Disclaimer: They usually are.)
