Judgment was reserved yesterday in a High Court action in which a teacher is claiming that a Department of Education ruling has prevented her from getting incremental pay increases for 18 years.

Ms Frances McCann, of Ivy Cottage, Walshestown, Newbridge, Co Kildare, who teaches in Holy Family School, Newbridge, claimed the Department's decision was unreasonable. The Department is denying the claim.

The president of the High Court, Mr Justice Costello, said he would be reserving his decision on the matter.
