The Laffoy Commission should not examine vaccine tests on orphans until potential conflicts of interest involving commission members had been fully explained, according to Mr Gay Mitchell TD. The Fine Gael spokesman on health said he had originally objected to the involvement of the Laffoy Commission in favour of a comprehensive investigation by the Oireachtas Health Committee, because the Department of Health itself appeared to have questions to answer.
The Minister for Health, Mr Martin, had rejected his representations, however, and had involved the Laffoy Commission. It now appeared that two members of the commission had potential conflicts of interest, Mr Mitchell said.
