SWEDEN: Opposition among Swedes to adopting the euro increased to 51 per cent in an opinion poll published yesterday, breaking a trend of growing support for the Yes side measured in three recent surveys.

The August 27th to September 2nd Temo opinion poll published in the daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter gave euro supporters 37 per cent. In the previous Temo poll published on August 28th, euro opponents led supporters by 48 to 37 per cent.

The new reading was the No side's highest in any Temo poll since June, when euro opponents also scored 51 per cent. Since that poll's release, three other voter surveys have showed a narrowing of the No side's lead, a trend which on Wednesday prompted the Swedish crown to strengthen to 10-week highs against the euro.

Sweden will hold its referendum on September 14th.
