Pat Murphy gained handsome consolation for losing Shooting Light to Martin Pipe by saddling Supreme Glory to land a thrilling victory in the Coral Eurobet Welsh National at Chepstow today.

The 10-1 chance, ridden by Leighton Aspell, outstayed last year's winner Jocks Cross (10-1) by two lengths with Bindaree (4-1) a further six lengths away third. What's Up Boys, winner of the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, was fourth.

Edmond, who took this race two years ago, set a strong gallop over the gruelling near three and three-quarter mile trip and 22 fences.

But seven horses were in with a chance as the field turned for home with five fences in front of them.
