Students are protesting outside the British Embassy in Dublin over the threat posed to Ireland by the Sellafield MOX plant and have called for its closure.

Students at the protest dressed in what they labelled the `Post-Sellafield Disaster Clothing Range' ̵ protective clothing and gas masks.

The equipment, they say, will become essential fashion accessories in the future should disaster take place in Sellafield

"Today's demonstration was arranged to coincide with the Nuclear Free Seas Flotilla which will be taking place at the same time in the Irish Sea, which is, due to Sellafield, the most radioactive sea in the world," Mr Colm Jordan, President of USI.

"The anger at the situation has been re-ignited by the shipment of reject plutonium that passed through the Pacific on its way from Japan to Sellafield in the UK.

"The first every plutonium mixed oxide shipment was rejected because of documents falsified by BNFL, a ludicrous situation that confirms everybody's fears regarding the plant."

The USI said it was calling on British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, to provide alternative employment in the Sellafield area to facilitate the plants closure.
