A strike by French air traffic controllers caused travel chaos for the third successive day today.

A strike by French air traffic controllers caused travel chaos for the third successive day today.

Around 60 per cent of flights in and out of Orly airport south of Paris were cancelled.

A spokesman for the national civil aviation agency said several flights had also been cancelled at Charles de Gaulle airport, northeast of the capital, hitting travel to northern and eastern Europe in particular.

Unions are protesting against a planned reorganisation of air traffic control around Paris that could involve relocating some of the staff. The government says the changes are needed to improve air safety but unions say they have not been consulted.
