At least 10 people died in a stampede today after a political rally addressed by India's Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani.

An unspecified number were also injured in the stampede that broke out when people headed for the main railway station in Lucknow, the capital of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, to catch trains home.

"There are some casualties but right now we are trying to figure out more details of the stampede," city police chief Arun Kumar said.

A massive crowd turned up at the rally, at which Advani blasted Pakistan for its alleged role in attacks on India. Advani estimated the crowd size at 600,000 people.
