The former Tanaiste, Mr Dick Spring, has been appointed a non-executive chairman of the computer software company, Airtel ATN, whose shares were issued last Wednesday on the London Stock Exchange. The company provides software solutions for air-traffic management and aero nautical communications.

Mr Spring will draw an annual salary of £15,000 for the position, as well as enjoying a purchase option on 100,000 shares at their issue price of 20p after 18 months. The value of the shares increased by 77.7 per cent on the Ofex facility during their first three days of trading.

Since November, Mr Spring has been made an executive director of the Kerry-based foreign exchange and stockbroking firm, Fexco. He holds non-executive positions on the boards of SIFCO Turbine Components, Flexicom and International Developments Ireland.
