GARDAI have ruled out foul play in the deaths of a Dublin couple whose bodies were found at their home in Clonsilla on Thursday evening. A Garda spokesman said the deaths were not believed to be suspicious.

Mr James Coffey (57) and his wife, Rita (56), were found in their bed at Lohunda Downs at about 6 p.m. on Thursday by their son, Paul. He broke into the house after he had not heard from them for some days.

The couple were last seen about 10 days ago. Neighbours said they thought they might have taken a holiday.

"On Saturday I noticed that all the curtains in the house were closed," said one neighbour. "I said to my daughter they must have gone away. When they were there you could always see a light on in the evening because they would never have the curtains closed fully."

The neighbours said Mr and Mrs Coffey moved to the area about a year ago from Artane. They "kept to themselves" and were not well known on the road.

However, neither appeared to be in good health. One neighbour said that during the year Mrs Coffey had been collected from the house a number of times by ambulance.

There was no sign of a break in or burglary, gardai said.

Their bodies were removed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital yesterday where a post mortem was carried out.
