Some Mass items stolen this year from a priest in a village near the Cork-Kerry border have been found.

Two chalices, along with vestments embroidered by the late mother of Fr Kevin McNamara, were removed from his car as he said Mass in Gneeveguilla in late September.

The case that contained the items was found on an embankment on Friday by a man out walking.

It contained one of the chalices, which was slightly damaged.

Fr McNamara has prayed for the person who was took the items and for the return of his vestments.

He said he had not given up hope.

Fr McNamara’s mother died the week he was ordained in 1980, and she did the embroidery a short time before her death.

Gardaí in Kanturk are investigating and have issued an appeal for public assistance.
