LONDON - More than half of British men who start smoking in their teens and continue to smoke throughout their life will not live past 73, a major study on the effect of smoking said yesterday.

The 15 year study, funded by the British Heart Foundation and covering 7,735 men, showed that 78 per cent of those who have never smoked are alive at 73 while only 42 per cent of those who were smoking before they were 20 would survive to that age.
