SIPTU weighs up strike options at Aer Rianta

SIPTU is threatening industrial action in protest against the proposed break-up of Aer Rianta.

SIPTU is angry over the rejection by the Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan, of a request by Aer Rianta unions for an independent review of proposals to break up the company.

A co-ordinating committee made up of senior officials in Dublin, Shannon and Cork has now been assembled to formulate a strategy of resistance, SIPTU said.

SIPTU official Mr Dermot O'Loughlin said although SIPTU had not intended to embark upon any industrial action in the short term, Mr Brennan's "dismissive attitude" to the concerns raised by the Aer Rianta unions on behalf of the employees was a highly provocative move.

Mr O'Loughlin claimed there is no properly worked out business plan for the operation of the three companies that will be created after the break-up. "The Minister is literally flying by the seat of his pants", he said.
