Sinn Féin's first woman MP for 83 years has given birth to a boy, it was announced today.
Ms Michelle Gildernew - who surprised many at last year's general election when she won the Fermanagh and South Tyrone seat by a mere 54 votes - gave birth to her first child, who weighed 7lb 14ozs.
Ms Gildernew's narrow victory in last year's general election sparked a legal battle with Ulster Unionist candidate Mr James Cooper over alleged electoral fraud and malpractice in the village of Garrison.
Ulster Unionists protested that the polling station was kept open beyond the closing time.
However, they lost a subsequent court battle.
Northern Ireland's youngest MP at the age of 32, she was the first female nationalist MP in Northern Ireland for 32 years and serves as the deputy chairwoman of the Stormont Assembly's social development committee.
