Sinn Féin has denied allegations in today's Examinernewspaper that a taped interrogation of a person about drugs and drug-dealing was found in the car of Mr Martin Ferris after his arrest on March 11th.

A party spokesman said: "We will not be issuing a statement on the allegations made in the Examineras there is no basis in them and are merely an attempt to side-track the visit of Gerry Adams to North Kerry, where Sinn Féin fully expects to win a seat in the general election".

He said the claims were a ploy to take attention away from the work Mr Ferris was doing as a Kerry county councillor.

"If there was any basis in them at all Martin Ferris would have been detained indefinitely and charged as soon as the incident happened. As it happens, Mr Ferris was detained for 12 hours and released immediately," the spokesman said.
