Shopping centre to face legal challenge

A judge gave the go-ahead yesterday for a legal challenge to a giant shopping centre at Belfast Harbour

A judge gave the go-ahead yesterday for a legal challenge to a giant shopping centre at Belfast Harbour. In the High Court, Mr Justice Kerr granted leave for a judicial review of planning permission for the £65 million project known as D5. The case has been brought by Belfast City Council and the Chamber of Trade which claim the project will hit retailers and cost jobs in existing shopping centres.

But the developer, Aquis Estates, says the project - to include a huge Sainsbury supermarket, 18-screen cinema and 10 large retail warehouses - will generate 1,200 jobs.
