British public support for military action against Iraq has surged after the bomb attack in Bali, in which up to 30 Britons were killed, according to a poll published today.
Support for war against Baghdad has shot up 10 points to 42 per cent of British voters, while the number opposed to action fell to its lowest level yet of 37 per cent, an ICM survey carried out for the Guardiannewspaper said.
An ICM poll last week found that only 32 per cent of Britons were in favour of military action compared to 41 per cent against.
Despite the increase in support for military action, 85 per cent of Britons still believe a mandate is needed from the United Nations before troops are sent in.
Up to 30 Britons are thought to be among those killed in the Bali explosion which ripped through bars and discotheques in Kuta Beach, more than any other country apart from Australia.
