A TAXI driver who pushed his hand between a woman passenger's thighs in 1996 has lost his appeal against conviction and sentence for sexual assault.
Judge Michael White said the driver, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was guilty of a very serious offence. "You were in a position of trust in that you brought people home in the early hours of the morning," he said. "The woman concerned obviously suffered great distress."
Judge White said the driver had already suffered a very serious penalty in losing his hackney licence and his livelihood. He imposed 130 hours community service as an alternative to six months in prison.
