Seven people died and 20 others were in hospital after drinking moonshine liqour in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the Press Trust of India said today.

The agency said a group of villagers from Natham village in Kadalur district drank the illegal brew and started vomiting. They were taken to a hospital, where seven of them died.

The exact number of people affected not yet known.

Last month, at least 17 people died and 30 were hospitalised in Tamil Nadu after drinking moonshine.
