Gardai have urged the mother of a new-born baby who was found abandoned in Dublin early yesterday to seek medical assistance. The baby girl was found in a telephone box on the Navan Road at about 4.30 a.m. by a Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance team from Phibsboro station. A woman had earlier made a 999 call to inform the emergency services of the baby's whereabouts, though she did not identify herself as the mother.
The baby was taken by the ambulance team, Mr Michael Duggan and Mr Gerry O'Rourke, to the Rotunda Hospital. A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesman said she was in good health.
