The chief superintendent of the Limerick division has been seconded from the force to do a second tour of duty with the UN police force in Cyprus, writes Eibhir Mulqueen.

Chief Supt Liam Quinn will take over as commander of the UN force next week. The force consists of 20 Irish and 15 Australian officers.

He was requested by the Garda Commissioner to do a second tour on the intervention of the Greek and Turkish mayors of Nicosia.

He was last there in 1997, when he was commander of the Irish contingent.
