The search for the bodies of three fishermen lost off Mizen Head in November has been called off by the Naval Service after unsuccessful diving on the wreck of their vessel over the New Year weekend.

The Naval diving team found no trace of the missing men on the St Gervase, which sunk after leaving Castletownbere in Co Cork on a fishing trip.

The body of one of the four crew on board, Timothy Angland, was recovered by the divers shortly after the sinking.

Recovery attempts immediately after the sinking were hampered by bad weather. It was hoped the mission would have been successful this time as the boat was now firmly lodged on a sandbank off Mizen Head.
