School bus catches fire on M50

A number of primary school children escaped injury today after the coach in which they were travelling caught fire in Dublin.

A number of primary school children escaped injury today after the coach in which they were travelling caught fire in Dublin.

The fire broke out when the private bus was on the south-bound carriage of the M50 motorway earlier this morning, just past the Ballinteer exit.

Sixty-three people were on the bus at the time, including children, parents and teachers. The children were said to be first and second class primary school students on a school trip.

A Garda spokesman said the emergency services were called and the bus was evacuated. Five units of the fire brigade attended the incident

A section of the M50 was closed off for a time while fire fighters dealt with the blaze, causing delays for motorists in the area.
