London - Spot checks at British hospitals' accident and emergency units have revealed "scandalous" waiting times for patients, according to a survey published yesterday.
Snap inspections at more than 240 casualty units on Monday found elderly patients waiting on hospital trolleys for up to 40 hours, the Association of Community Health Councils for England and Wales (ACHCEW) said.
The Nationwide Casualty Watch 2000 spot checks were the third such survey carried out by the organisation.
